Deze massa kan afkomstig zijn van een continu beluchtingssysteem of van een doseersysteem zoals bijvoorbeeld een pompeenheid.  De manifold levert een continue plaat over de volle breedte op een band of een bepaald aantal strengen met een vaste breedte (multilane). Het wordt zo ontworpen dat de breedte van de ontvangende band optimaal wordt gebruikt.
